And 31 makes #1

Get out your flameproof clothing because the internet is going to explode! Super Mario Galaxy has just recently become the #1 best-reviewed videogame in history according to GameRankings.com. Yep, that’s right folks. Super Mario Galaxy, with an average score of 97.9% has just pulled ahead of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time’s 97.5%.

Does this actually mean anything? Is Super Mario Galaxy an even better game than the fabled Ocarina of Time which spread across the N64 like wildfire? No, of course this doesn’t mean anything like that. It’s all opinion anyway based on a set of scores which, at the high end of the spectrum of videogames, is kind of arbitrary. I really doubt that most reviewers believe that Super Mario Galaxy is a better game than Ocarina of Time (it’s worth noting that most sites which have reviewed both games gave Ocarina of Time a higher score).

Really, this all doesn’t mean anything. But I’m sure some fanboys are going to turn it into the basis of a flame war somewhere anyway. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Edit: Aha! I scooped Joystiq!

  1. Honestly, I never thought I’d say this, but I almost ready to wholly agree that Galaxy is far better that Ocarina.

(but then again so was Majora’s Mask…)
